Who is Mitsubishi?
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is a Japanese multinational company that was founded in 1884. The company has a long history of manufacturing a wide range of products, including construction equipment, including excavators.
The first Mitsubishi excavator was introduced in the 1960s, and it quickly gained a reputation for being reliable and efficient. Mitsubishi continued to refine its excavator designs and introduce new models throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
In the 1990s, Mitsubishi expanded its global reach by establishing manufacturing facilities and sales offices in Europe, North America, and Asia. This helped the company to better serve customers in these regions and increase its market share.
In 2000, MHI and Caterpillar Inc. formed a joint venture called Caterpillar Mitsubishi Ltd. (CML) to manufacture and market construction equipment, including excavators. The partnership allowed Mitsubishi to leverage Caterpillar’s distribution and customer support network, while Caterpillar gained access to Mitsubishi’s engineering expertise and advanced technologies.
The joint venture continued until 2008 when Caterpillar acquired full ownership of the venture and renamed it Caterpillar Japan Ltd. Today, Caterpillar’s line of excavators still includes many models that were originally developed and manufactured by Mitsubishi.
Overall, the history of Mitsubishi excavators is one of continuous improvement and innovation, as the company has worked to stay at the forefront of the construction and mining equipment industry. While Mitsubishi excavators are no longer marketed under the Mitsubishi brand, their legacy continues to be felt through their contribution to the Caterpillar excavator lineup.
